People We Meet: A Story of a Blue Ribbon Trout Stream

People We Meet: A Story of a Blue Ribbon Trout Stream
Au Sable River

By: Kyler Gartner

There is perhaps no other activity in my life that has brought me closer to people and to the natural world than fly fishing. In that pursuit I have bonded with people I might have never crossed paths with. People whose uniqueness and greatness I might have never seen or been affected by, and moments framed with sounds, smells, and sensations that often heighten one’s self awareness and consciousness.

An Earth Day Shindig

An Earth Day Shindig

We are stoked to be co-hosting ‘An Earth Day Shindig’ with our friends, Flood Tide Company on 4/20/17 at Cooper River Brewing.  Since Emerger Strategies and Flood Tide Company are both 1% for the Planet members, with thought it would be a good idea to donate all proceeds to a couple of great local nonprofits: The Sustainability Institute and Charleston Waterkeeper.  Both The Sustainability Institute and Charleston Waterkeeper do so much good for the Charleston community and we wanted to do our part to say thanks and give back!

Exploring the Everglades

Exploring the Everglades
Entering the backcountry of Everglades National Park

In late February 2016 a friend of mine, Brent Watts, and I headed to Everglades National Park to fish and camp for a few days in hopes of finding some early season tarpon.  It was our first time in the Park and we really didn’t know what to expect.  Having only seen pictures and some videos, I thought I had a pretty good idea of what to expect, but I couldn’t have been more wrong.

A Beginner’s Guide to Sustainable Business

A Beginner’s Guide to Sustainable Business

Interested in sustainable business, but have no idea where to begin?  Let’s start by defining sustainability.  The most commonly used definition for sustainability is from the 1987 Brundtland Commission who defined ‘sustainable development’ as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations to meet their own needs.”  The idea of ensuring that future generations will be able to ‘meet their own needs’ is crucial because it would be short-sighted and selfish to only safeguard one’s own generation’s ability to meet its needs.

Low-carbon USA

Low-carbon USA

At Emerger Strategies, we’re aware that climate change, if left unchecked, will have major effects on the communities in which we operate, our business, and the economy at large.  We are also aware that climate change is already having negative impacts on our fisheries.  That’s why we’re joining more than 620 companies and investors across the United States to encourage the incoming administration and new Congress to stick with the commitments we’ve made in the Paris Climate Agreement. Failure to transition toward a low-carbon US economy now will only exacerbate the climate-related problems we’ll experience in the future. But maintaining U.S. climate leadership can spur innovation, advance our nation’s competitiveness, and position U.S. companies as leaders in the global economy.

No matter the size of your business, social media is a powerful tool that can be used to drastically increase brand awareness.  Social media is so powerful because never before has the world been so interconnected.  In fact, according to the World Economic Forum, it is estimated that by 2018 there will be 2.44 billion people using social networks.  This presents a massive opportunity to increase brand awareness  to a large audience interested in connecting with brands that align with their interests and values.
